God’s Plan for your Life

Foundation Scripture: Proverbs 29:18

Key Scriptures: Genesis 1:26-28; Jeremiah 29:11-13; Psalm 127:1-2; Matthew 6:33; Jeremiah 33:1-3

Supplemental Scriptures: Genesis 17:4-5; 1 Kings 19:12; Proverbs 23:5; Genesis 3:17; Exodus 4:2-5; Ephesians 3:20; Psalm 51:16-17; John 6:54,56; Genesis 3:8-10

Last Sunday we learned in Proverbs 29:18, that when the people have no vision, they perish.  When we can not see God’s vision for our lives we cast off good judgment and rely on ourselves, which leads ultimately to death. Revelation is something revealed that has not previously been seen, but God wants us to see it! Although we have been born in sin and predisposed to desiring sin, God, knowing our flaws, wants to make us perfect in Him! Is there really anything that can make us perfect? Yes! God, through Christ, makes us perfect!

We also learned last week that the Old Testament Prophet Elisha’s response and relationship to his predecessor Elijah, is a shadow of how our (the Church’s) response and relationship should be to Christ Jesus. The Power and anointing of Elijah was upon Elisha, just as the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit of Christ is on us! Be in a position to receive it!

Today’s message is about God’s plan for our lives; before the foundation of the world, God had a plan for each of us but in order to discover that plan, we have to be open to the leadership of the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth.

In Genesis 1:26-28, God says that He is making us in His very own image… that we are to take authority of everything around us and in our environment. Based upon what God tells us, our destiny is to reflect His image… His words were not simply a future pronouncement but they included our lives right now!

We have an example in Abraham when the Lord told him he would be a father of many nations; when God spoke it, Abraham became instantly what was spoken! And Abraham’s response showed that he was able to articulate God’s plan for him as he started on a journey to a place that God had not yet shown him. There is a calling and anointing right now, right where we are; we need to be able to understand the plans of the Lord so that we can move in sync with Him (not just our faith, but our whole man working together with our thoughts and actions)!

When we read in Jeremiah 29:11-13, where the Lord says He has a “good” plan for us, is that the plan we have for ourselves? Most certainly not! The plans that God has for our live far exceed anything we could have ever imagined for ourselves! Well then, how will we ever know what plans He has for us? The only way we can ever truly know the plans God has for us, is to become a worshipper! Get in a quiet place and worship the King of Glory! Just as our Brother Elijah did when he was on the Mountain waiting on God’s direction… God spoke to him in a gentle and quiet whisper.

God’s plan for our lives does not include toil (exhausting labor or effort). In Psalm 127:1-2, we are taught that unless the Lord builds a house, the people labor in vain… God wants us to rest and receive from Him His abundance without the hard labor! When the ground was under the curse in Genesis, we were told we would have to toil, but now we are free from the curse and are able to rest from our labors in Christ. Jesus tells us very clearly that if we seek His Kingdom first, then everything we have need of, including His vision and direction for our lives, we will receive in Him!

Regarding what we have to offer, God can use anything we have, as little and as insignificant as it may seem, to bring Himself Glory through us; He just needs our willingness. Going through the motions don’t please God, a flawless performance means nothing to him, learn God-worship when your pride is shattered. Heart-shattered lives ready for love don’t for a moment escape God’s notice. Be in position to receive God’s plan for your life!

God desires to reveal great and mighty things to those that seek Him. In the book of Jeremiah, we are taught that the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time while he was in prison; be encouraged, because the word of the Lord can come into our lives in any situation we find ourselves and at any time! Remember, it is the Lord that speaks to us, in whom we will see great and mighty things and receive understanding and vision.

Remember to stay close to the Lord! After Jesus gives His sermon about eating His flesh and drinking His blood, although difficult for many to understand, Peter proclaimed by the Spirit that Jesus has the words of eternal life and there is no where else he would prefer to be than with Him. We have the words of life to give to those who are perishing and have no hope! However, we can only lead, manifest redemption and reveal the heart of God to others when we ourselves have vision. We have the words of life! Be diligent; be alive in every moment in every environment… that is the beginning of revelation and Gods plan for our lives!

Questions to Consider

  • God asked Adam in Genesis, “where are you?”, if God were to ask you the same question today, what would your answer be?
  • God’s plan for us does not involve toil, what area in your life are you finding yourself toiling?
  • How are you seeking the Kingdom first in your life and how has that taught you to be a true worshipper?
  • Do you believe God wants to reveal great and mighty things to you?
