Being of One Mind

One MindThe United Negro College Fund has the saying, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste”.  The statement is true.  For many Christians it is one of the most neglected and misunderstood elements of their lives.  The mind is one element of the soul.  The soul is the seat of human personality and governs the activity of the physical body.  The spirit is the part of man that establishes connection with God and allows us to manifest the presence of God through spiritual operations like prayer, inspiration, intuition, and spiritual gifts.

3 John 2,  Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. NKJV

This passage is not a promise from God, but it is a prayer of John for Gaius.  It gives us an understanding that in order for someone to prosper in all things, their soul must prosper.  Prosperity of the soul is the key element to entering into health and all forms of prosperity.  Prosperity of the soul is the glue that maintains unity in the spirit, soul and body.  To experience prosperity, there must be unity in the triune elements of man.

Matthew 12:25, But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.  NKJV

Jesus is speaking a universal truth that applies to the human being.  How can a kingdom stand if it is divided against itself?  No kingdom can stand with division in its midst.

Luke 17:20-21, Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation;  nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”  NKJV

The kingdom of God is within you.  How can that kingdom stand if there is division in the triune being of man?  If man’s spirit and soul are divided, how can the kingdom of God stand within you?  If one’s spirit and body are divided, how can the kingdom of God stand within you?  It is impossible.  Every time I have found myself struggling to maintain victory in an area of life, I can track the problem down to disunity in my person.  Failures to either renew my mind, to yield to a spiritual truth, or to bring some element of my soul into captivity to Christ (2 Cor 10:4-5).

When I am unified in my spirit and soul, I prosper.  I am invincible in that area of life.

When my mind is renewed in a specific area and in unity with my spirit, I become prosperous in that purpose, no matter what it is (good or evil).  If my spirit is strengthened in the Word and my mind is renewed in that same Word, then I am unified in my being on that Word, and I agree with God and prosper in His purposes.  Oh yes, it is the perfect will of God for us to be in unity with the Word of God and fulfill His purposes for our lives.  To become, attain, and achieve all that we are destined for.

God has made us new creations in Christ Jesus.  Our responsibility is to bring our whole being under subjection to the gift of eternal restoration and life.  Our job is to bring our whole being under the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus.  The soul must prosper.  The mind, the senses, the emotions, and the will; these are the elements of the soul and must be renewed to the Word of God.  In this renewal we will find the prosperity of life that we seek and the freedom and liberty from sin and death.
